Another photo of my longhaired Japanese Akita, Toshi This was taken while we were out at the dog club where I live. He really loves being there. He gets so excited in the car on the way there, its really cute hehe
He's getting more and more handsome! This weekend there will be a dog show in my city and people from the whole Europe will come. There will be 34 Japanese Akita and I'd love to see a long haired one and some silver brindle ones (I've only seen one white, one red brindle and a few red ones so far).
I myself have seen all color variations. Red, white, red/silver brindle and sesame. Red is by far the most common, brindle second. White and sesame are not seen often at all sadly. Remember that you cannot enter a dog show with a longhaired Akita unless it's made for the longhaired kind (or unless its an unofficial show). Thats what I learned this year at the Swedish Akita meet
I know that longhaired types can't be entered but last year I saw a longhaired American Akita that was not participating and I hope this year I'll see a Japanese one too. I've never seen one in real life and I'd love to pet one with extra fur. But I saw a smooth hair Japanese Akita, probably not pure breed. If he hadn't had the typical red markings I wouldn't have considered the fact that he was an Akita (I was surprised anyway when I asked his owner). Here's some pictures of him that I found on a forum: [link], [link]
Your right! I just wanted to hear it from a Akita owner. I'm a dog trainer, but I haven't worked with any Akitas yet. But from a professional dog trainer, and a few friends I know they have a temper with training, and being very protective. I know a lot about, I use to study them a while back. Their GREAT dogs, VERY protective!
You wont find a more loyal dog as far as I know. A well raised Akita will always be a true friend and indeed a great little "guardian" to you My Akita shows good signs of this already. He's friendly and all, but he can tell when a suspicious person is getting too close to him and me when we're out on walks, especially during late evenings and nights. It makes me feel safe
He's so handsome!!! How old is he now? And oh my, his fur! It's just... kajgkhawjkgaef gorgeous. My Akita Inu's (Riki) fur is just everywhere right now since it's his shedding season... ...I hate cleaning it up.
Thanks He's 10 months now. I myself never have fur issues since I use a professional fur-care tool which works incredibly well. Toshi is longhaired, imagine the amount of fur he'd shed, if you think a shorthair sheds a lot hehe
Haha. Lol. True. And awww he's so big! Riki is so tiny, comparing to the other male akitas out there. Yeah, I brush him 2-3 times a day and then I get large amounts of fur. I use a brush for double coats, but the fur just gets all over the floor. >.<
Hmm, I would suggest you look up a tool called Furminator. It's pricey but well worth the costs. All the fur gets stuck on the brush so your floor stays clean, and it has a little button that makes all the fur detach from the brush so you can put it in the bin right away which makes it quick and easy to use. The first time I used it on Toshi, I got a whole shopping bag full of fur and none of it ended up on the floor
